The RollingThunder:CabRebuild Project

3/24/07 - Finished Cabinet Layout

Now that I got everything sorted I'll get the building materials and start cutting away. I wasn't joking about there being a lot of parts in here. This should of been done in Autocad. Then I could just pop over to a fab shop and have them cut it out for me, (if possible).

I'll think I'll measure up my Space Invaders now that it's gutted as well, (fixing monitor).

1/21/07 - Took measurements.

I'll be logging the progress of the Rolling Thunder cabinet rebuild here. I took some pictures of all sides of the cabinet and close ups of the marquee, control panel & side art.

I took the control panel and marquee images and cleaned them up in photoshop and rendered them up in Illustrator.

After that, I measured all the parts of the cabinet including beveling and what not. Believe it or not, there's a LOT of damn pieces in that thing! I then modeled all the pieces in XSI to make sure everything fit. Turned out pretty good! Although I didn't include the speaker grill and mount on the right.

(Edit: uh, I re-rendered it including these bits. Do it right or not at all!) ;)

Tip: XSI is NOT the tool to do any precision modelling. If I were to do this again I would do it in 3DSMax. It has much better curve, extruding and measurement tools.

The side art I found at LocalArcade.com Arcade Art Page. Great site with a lot of reproduced art in Illustrator format. Pretty cool.

Now I just have to build the damn thing. ;)
